Our History

Alpha Soda is the oldest standing business in the city of Alpharetta! Atlanta has grown dramatically over the past century and Alpha Soda has grown along with it. However, our goal has remained the same: to provide heaping helpings of homemade dishes in a courteous and friendly atmosphere. This philosophy has established Alpha Soda as one of Atlanta’s favorite restaurants, as well as Alpharetta’s favorite gathering place.

In 1920, Louis Jones opened a soda fountain in the back of his medicine shop and Alpha Soda was born. There have been many owners over the years and the location has changed as a result of popular demand. We would like to pay tribute to the past owners as all of them have played key roles in the development of Alpha Soda:

1920 - Louis Jones (Established on Main Street)
1935 - Ralph Waters
1940 - Walt Goswich
1945 - Ralph Kirby
1953 - Johnny Reese
1956 - moved to City Hall
1957 - King
1967 - Deese
1974 - Walker
1975 - Willis
1986 - moved to Alpha Drugs
1986 - T.J. & Rita Turk
1986 - Harry & Joyce Thigpan
1990 - moved to Alpharetta Crossing Shopping Center
1991 - George Petrakopoulos & Sam Mellas
1995 - moved to present location (permanently)

Alpha Soda established a permanent home on the restaurant’s 75th anniversary when its owners purchased a lot and built the new restaurant just blocks away from its birthplace. In 2002, the current location was renovated to its full 1920s Art Deco splendor. We also gave the menu a contemporary makeover which has been perfected through customer suggestions.
